History
Once upon a time .. there were three students of information science and engineering, highly motivated and technology driven, who founded ATIX in 1995.
And so the success story follows its course ...
In 1995, the three friends expanded the knowledge they had acquired about computers during their studies by working in their parents’ basements, the temporary place of business. At this time you could have called them “nerds”, according to Wikipedia: a person who avidly pursues intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities.
But soon small and medium-sized enterprises became aware of their skills and the first projects designing and implementing complex computer networks were conducted and their sustenance assured. The move out of the basement was preprogrammed.
A tipping point came in 1998. One evening, one of the three took notice of a cluster file system from the American company Sistina Inc, a storage software provider. Later, Sistina Inc. was bought by Red Hat and the former cluster file system is called Red Hat Cluster File System GFS today. The friends were hooked and began to contact the chief software developer Matthew O'Keefe.
A vivid exchange of information followed and a long-term friendship was cemented. “Matt” was an inspiration and guru alike. He even congratulated the friends in an email on the pope’s election:
Congratulations to my German friends!
It’s been 1000 years since the last German Pope, that's far too long! Congratulations to all my German friends on the election of Cardinal Ratzinger to the papacy.
Matt
Thanks to the discovery of the Cluster File System and the exchange with Matt, the three began to keep themselves busy with the exploration and development of Open Source and cluster infrastructures. A new passion and so a new business focus was born: the concentration on consulting, development, and support of Linux clusters.
The development of the com.oonics Enterprise IT Platform, a highly available and optimal scalable Linux cluster solution, followed. Business really took off. The former “nerds” elevated ATIX to the specialist for business critical Linux solutions in data centers. ATIX GbR (civil law partnership) was transformed into a GmbH (private limited liability company) and later into a AG (stock corporation). The company has been growing; employees have been hired to cope with the great demand.
Not only did the number of employees grow, but so did the number of partners. ATIX has become the only Red Hat Premier Business Partner for IT infrastructures in Europe (highest partner status) and a Novell Gold Partner. Furthermore, ATIX has commercial partnerships with Zimbra, HP, ProtoSoft, and many more.
And last but not least: Many well-known companies like Hilti, Messe München (Munich International Trade Fairs), Trend Micro, and The Huffington Post have placed their faith in ATIX and are benefiting from the long-term experience, first class consulting, and reliable support.
To this day, ATIX captures data centers with cost saving Linux enterprise solutions.
